Q&A: Dave, Nush Foods (Low Carb and Keto Food)

Good Morning Biohackers!!! We are very excited today to have an interview with Nush foods. Muffy Mead-Ferro is the Founder and CEO of Nush Foods. Nush foods started when Muffy started to notice that most of the products in the market contain sugar and excess carbs. As we age we are getting more conscious about the food we eat and the food we give to our kids. Muffy started experimenting with carb substitutes and that’s when she discovered the beauty of flax seeds. Flax is high in Omega-3 fatty acids, which are so good for your skin and bones. They’re also full of fiber which helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels. I know you guys are excited to know more about their products, how it all started and what they have in store for the future.

Q: Hi Can you tell us something about the company mission, vision, branding, and how it all started? 

A: Muffy’s story starts after she had read several conclusive studies showing the harmful effects of sugar. She was convinced that she and her family should avoid sugar at all costs. She became quickly frustrated while shopping at the grocery store. Everything had hidden sugar in it. She began experimenting at home with baked goods since this is something she and her family missed. She developed some low-sugar snack cakes. Even her kids loved them! Her friends and neighbors were asking for them. She felt this was something the public needed. She decided she needed to go into business for herself to launch a low sugar baked good company.

Q: What is the most challenging aspect of creating your products and why?

A: Competing with other brands in the same category who use cheap-fillers and unhealthy ingredients. It’s tough doing everything the right way.

Q: Ok let’s talk about your product. Which of these products do you personally use, and which of these products would you recommend most and why?

A: Muffy’s favorites are the Banana Nut and Blueberry cake, and the pancake mix. The cakes are easy and convenient. When she is traveling or short on time to prepare food, the snack cakes hit the spot! The pancake mix is special because even sugary eaters love the flavor and texture of them. These are real pancakes, made from nutrient-dense whole food ingredients. 

Q: There are a lot of products for Keto, weight loss, and low carb in the market. Who do you think is the toughest (and most inspiring) competitor and why?

A: We have a lot of great competitors in the market. Each product we offer is unique in who we compete with. While we are fighting for space in the market, we like to do our own thing. We have found many of the keto, weight loss, and low carb products to be unfulfilling. Many times, they are full of so many strange ingredients that have no nutritional value. You have to eat 4-5 servings to feel satiated. We strive to be unique in that regard, to satisfy your hunger with one serving.

Q: Why do you think we need to choose Nush as opposed to all the other products available in the market? 

A: Nutrition and clean ingredients. What is on our label is exactly what is in our product. Many of the cheap fillers our competitors use are full of processing aids and natural flavors full of synthetic and petroleum products. Processing aids do not need to be listed on the label if they are 2% or less of your ingredient list. Our natural flavors are certified organic, which does not allow the use of horrible synthetic and petroleum products.

Q: Can you tell us more about the benefits of the Keto diet by using your products?

A: The keto diet is simple. By avoiding a spike in your blood sugar, your body will begin using its own fat as energy when glucose isn’t available. Our products have a negligible spike in your blood sugar, allowing your body to stay in ketosis. 

Q: Aside from current product offerings, is the team working on developing new additional products? What does the product roadmap look like?

A: Yes, and they will be launching soon! Sign up for our newsletter so you’re able to be alerted when the launch of our products. We don’t send out a lot of emails, so don’t worry about us bombarding your inbox!

Q: What are your future plans and goals for the company? Where do you want to be in 6-12 months? And 5 years? 

A: We plan on continuing to release innovative products for our customers. There is a large void of products in the marketplace for people who care about their overall health. Yes, our products are great for weight loss, keto, paleo, and diabetics. But there is much more to overall health, and we will continue to offer nutrient-dense products made from real whole foods without preservatives and cheap fillers.
